Frequently Asked Questions
- When I view the reports, only my computers Internet traffic
shows up. Why can't I see the Internet activity of other users?
This problem occurs when EtherScout is connected to a switch,
and not to a hub. A switch will not allow EtherScout to see all
Internet traffic, and only your IP address can be monitored under
this configuration.
To overcome this problem, install EtherScout on:
1. An Internet sharing PC which is running ICS or other software
to share the Internet connection.
2. Any PC which has only hubs, and no switches, between itself
and your Internet gateway device.
- In the reports, what does the Duration column represent?
The Duration column represents how long, in seconds, that a TCP
socket was connected. For example, if the user downloaded a large
file from a web server, the duration column would show how many
seconds that file took to download. If the user opened a telnet
session, the duration column would show how long the telnet session
existed. When dealing with web sites, if a web page contains 10
images and each image takes 1 second to download, the Duration
column would show a total of 10 seconds for that site.
