How to Install
Before you install this program, you should know what the
two components in Desktop Scout do:
- Desktop Scout Agent performs the monitoring tasks,
and needs to be installed on any PC that you want to monitor.
- Desktop Scout Viewer allows you to connect to and
monitor a PC running Desktop Scout Agent. Install the Viewer
on your PC that you will be monitoring from.
During installation, you can select the components that you
want installed. You can install both components on the same
PC if you want to monitor that PC locally.
After installation, you will need to configure the Viewer
or Agent to suit your monitoring needs. See the relevant documentation
on Desktop Scout
Viewer and Desktop
Scout Agent.
Stealth Tips
Here are a few essential tips to keep users from noticing
they are being monitored:
- Installation folder: During installation, you will
be asked to select an installation folder (the default folder
is named Desktop Scout 3). To prevent users from noticing
the programs folder, consider making up a different and
less revealing name so the user does not become suspicious.
- Delete desktop icons: Make sure there are no Desktop
Scout icons on the users desktop. You can choose not to
have these icons created during installation, or you can
delete them manually afterwards.
- Delete Start Menu icons: Once you become familiar
with how the program works and where programs installation
folder is, you can delete the Start Menu icons for Desktop
Scout 3.
- Hide process from Windows Task Manager: Desktop
Scout can run in a stealth process mode which makes it invisible
from the Task Manager. It will not show up as a running
process and cannot be terminated. You can enable this option
on the first page of the Agent Settings window.
- Hide program from Add/Remove Programs: Desktop
Scout can be hidden so that it does not appear as an installed
program. You can enable this option on the first page of
the Agent Settings window.
